In the book, Ibrahim Abouleish tells of his childhood in post-colonial Egypt, his roots in Islam, the encounter with the future prime minister Anwar el Sadat, the years of study in Austria and the encounter with European culture and of his return in his homeland. Gripping the author describes the adventurous beginnings of the project in the desert and the gradual realization of his constantly endangered by the failure of vision.
